    Description

Vintage 1950s Travel Brochure/Map, Kickapoo State Park, Danville, Illinois
    Details
    ·
This auction is for the vintage travel brochure shown in the photos above. It's for Kickapoo State Park near Danville, Illinois.
    ·
It was published in 1958 ("9-58" is part of the code on the back, and William G. Stratton is listed as the Governor—he served 1953-1961).
    ·
Issued by the State of Illinois, Department of Conservation, Division of Parks and Memorials.
    ·
    It's a 4-fold, double-sided brochure with 4 panels on each side.
    ·
    It unfolds to 16" x 9".
    ·
Describes the transition from "wasteland" to a popular recreational spot, its history, early Spanish incursions, use by Native Americans (Fox Indians, Iroquois Indians, Kickapoo Indians), salt wells, & strip mining for coal. Interesting to read the sales prices of acres, monetary value of bushels of salt, etc.
    ·
Contains several black-and-white photos of the park.
    ·
A map shows fishing areas, ponds, salt springs, and so forth.
    ·
The cover has light corner creases and a split at the bottom & top of the two folds. The back has the Governor's name & 2 staff names crossed out, which was done by Kickapoo staff at the time.
