    Description

A rare lucky penny souvenir from the 1921 Chicago "Pageant of Progress".  This vintage souvenir "coin" is approximately 2-7/8 inches in diameter with an Indian head on the front side with the phrase Lucky Penny and the date 1921 (see photo comparison with quarter).  And, the back of the coin has a wheat wreath with the words "Souvenir of" embossed beneath the top of the wreath.  There is a circle on the center of the back of the coin with a design and the words "Pageant of Progress" and "Chicago".  The souvenir coin has weathered with age.  The souvenir coin is 99 years old.
A bit of history on the Pageant of Progress:  "An insistent demand for soup kitchens early in 1921 when unemployment was at its height in Chicago, was reasonable for the birth of the Pageant of Progress, which is now an annual event and which has become international in scope."
