First issued in 1997, the Platinum Eagle has quietly become a favorite among savvy U.S. coin collectors due in part to the fact that they traditionally have very low mintages.
In 2021, the U.S. Mint introduced the First Amendment to the United States Constitution Platinum Proof Coin Series. This 5 year series (2021-2025) will celebrate the 5 freedoms in the First Amendment--"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances"
This series uses the lifecycle of an oak tree from a seedling to a mighty oak on it's obverse designs as a metaphor for our country's growth as a nation that values freedom. The newest issue in this series is the 2022 Freedom of Speech 1oz Proof Platinum Eagle. The obverse design depicts a juvenile oak tree branch framed with the inscription “WITH FREEDOM OF SPEECH LIBERTY BLOSSOMS.” Additional inscriptions on the obverse are "IN GOD WE TRUST", "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "2022". The reverse design which will remain the same for the entire series depicts an eagle in flight, it's talons clutching an olive branch. Inscriptions on the reverse include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "0", "1oz."
Struck at the West Point Mint, this 2022 W 0 Proof Platinum Eagle Freedom of Speech has been certified a perfect PF70 Ultra Cameo by NGC!! In addition, each coin is hand-signed by Donna Weaver, the designer of the obverse of this year's Platinum Eagle! According to the NGC pop report, this exclusive pedigree has a population of ONLY 50!
