Return to Post-War Chicago, when N-S and E-W surface streets still offered the only crosstown travel option, before the city was rent by flyover expressways with this 1954 booklet, "The Latest CHICAGO Street Guide and Other Useful Information." They were free, the cover says, "Take One," but no publisher is listed. The cover also says Copyright 1944, but calendars for the second half of 1954 and all of 1955 take up the back cover.
It appears this was in a day when men actually consulted maps and directional guides, because the "Other Useful Information" turns out to be found in a sort of early day men's
    Cosmo,
with short articles and advertisements for mostly male ailments (and some serious ones--syphilis is prominently mentioned, along with piles; rectal diseases and prostate, kidney and bladder problems. But health advice for women is available too--one page is devoted to "Diseases of Women," with a prominent subhead, "Sex Hormone Treatment."
    Booklet measures 5 3/8" x 2 3/4".
This item has been stored in a smoke-free environment.
